Christmas Art Gift
I came across Yulia Brodskaya's artwork sometime ago and wanted to make one for girlfriend for Christmas. Other than it being cut paper, I wasn't really sure how she did it. If it was glued in place, taped or just folded and balanced. Plus I needed it to be able to stay in place in a frame hanging on a wall. Not just in place on a table.

I decided my best bet was to use foam core. I wasn't sure if it would work but didn't think I would have much success with gluing it down.
I picked out a font then printed her name at the size I wanted. I then transferred it to the foam core with graphite paper. Next I used an x-acto knife and made incisions where I wanted the paper outline to be. I also made cuts for a few of the swirls. You can see them in the top of the D. Happily the paper went in with a bit of finessing

I tried putting the swirls in the incisions but it was too cramped and I couldn't really get the detail I wanted. So I tried just curling the paper and placing it where I wanted which worked fine and then gluing them to the inner walls of the letters

I don't think this is how Yulia does it but I'm pleased with the results.
